New Madrid County Health Department
Healthy and Active Bootheel Communities Program

The New Madrid County Health Department has implemented a program to increase awareness of the need for proper diet and physical activity in an attempt to combat obesity and related health problems. We will be working with three elementary schools at the the 4th and 5th grade level, five African-American churches, the staff of the elementary schools and the health department and with the communities of Gideon and Lilbourn to provide walking trails for the citizens of those communities. Any questions about this program should be addressed to Ms. Jayne Dees at 573-748-5541.
This program has ended but the equipment that was purchased through the grant is housed at the Family Resource Center at 420 Virginia St in New Madrid - available from 8am to 5pm Monday thru Friday with no charge to users.

Funding for this project was provided in part by the Missouri Foundation for Health. The Missouri Foundation for Health is a philanthropic organization whose vision is to improve the health of the people in the communities it serves.
